Tools I love

Not sure what to buy? Here’s a list of products I personally love (and often use myself!). I’ve aimed to keep most options budget-friendly and easily available on Amazon, though these aren’t the only products I recommend.

For your first session, I will always bring my own supplies & props to ensure we have what we need, just in case what you have on hand isn’t the right fit to meet our goals.

Yoga Tools

  1. Mats

Gaiam Dry Grip Yoga Mat

The Mat 3mm Lululemon

Avoid buying “extra thick” exercise mats—these are usually designed for floor workouts (like crunches or Pilates) and don’t provide the grip needed for yoga or dynamic movement.

I personally use the Lululemon 3mm Mat, though I also like the 5mm version for extra cushioning. I recommend mats with a slightly grippy surface to help prevent sliding.

If you do find yourself slipping, a grippy towel is a great solution. My favorite is the Manduka Yogitoes Hot Yoga Towel. While it’s on the pricier side, it’s high quality and reliable. There are more budget-friendly alternatives, but this is the one I use and trust.

2 & 3. Blocks

EVA Foam block & Strap

Cork Block & Strap

EVA blocks are lighter and softer, while cork blocks are heavier, firmer, and offer better stability. In my own practice, I prefer full-size cork blocks (9x6x4). If you already have 9x6x2 blocks, those will work just fine—there’s no need to buy thicker blocks unless you want to.

I recommend that all yogis have a set of blocks and a strap and that you actually use them to support and elevate your practice. Blocks are often the missing piece to accessing the full expression of a pose safely and effectively.

4. Bolster

Gaiam Bolster

I recommend having at least one firm bolster, two is best. Bolsters are more stable than pillows and are helpful props to keep on hand. If you really want to splurge on a bolster set, I recommend the Crystal Cove Yoga Cushion Set (Brentwood Home).

5. Yoga Wheel

Yoga wheel

Yoga wheels are not a necessity, but they can be a wonderful tool for supporting spinal health. They’re especially helpful for gently reversing exaggerated spinal curvature, stretching the pectorals, and opening the heart.

6. Thick Blanket

Mexican Blanket

I like to keep a thick Mexican/Native style blanket on hand, this can be used as a prop, as a blanket during yin poses and as a took for core work.

7. Inversion Trainer

Feet-Up Inversion Trainer

Inversion trainers, like the FeetUp® Trainer, can be a fun and supportive way to explore inversions safely. They help reduce pressure on the neck and wrists while building confidence (and core strength!) upside down.

A Note about the “Provide Your Own Table” (PYOT) Discount

If you’d like to take advantage of my PYOT discount, please ensure your table meets the following requirements:

  • The height must be adjustable.

  • The table must have a headrest (a face hole embedded in the table is not sufficient).

For linens, I recommend dark-colored twin flannel sheets. Larger sheets can make proper draping more difficult. If you tend to run warm, dark-colored 1000ct cotton or linen sheets are also fine. Please avoid light-colored or very lightweight fabrics, as these can sometimes be see-through and may not provide the privacy clients prefer.

I am happy to bring my own table warmer and bolster while still honoring the discount—clients only need to provide the table and sheets.

8: Table Warmer

11. Fluffy bolster

12. Sheets

Twin flannel sheets*

Massage table sheet sets are available for purchase, but standard twin sheets work just fine and are often much more affordable. You will need a complete set: flat sheet, fitted sheet, and pillowcase. Sheets do not need to be new or matching—they should simply be comfortable for you and provide adequate privacy.

13. Lotion

Basics Unscented

Herbal Lavender

This is the brand of lotion I typically use, usually unscented. If you’d like, I’m happy to add essential oils of your choice. Please review the list of ingredients and let me know if you have any allergies or sensitivities. The lavender is very lightly scented. I am always happy to discuss using other products if you have a preference, but not all products (lotions/oils) are great for massage, so we may need to discuss those preferences to find an appropriate solution.
